who we are

Flanders Development Cycling is an organization focused on taking the development of young riders through a European racing camp. Our camps are based in Oudenaarde in the Flemish region of Belgium and consists of a 32 day camp of Kermis style races. We share a house and facilities together for the month, working together for a common experience.

Who can go?

We offer options for age categories 15-16 and 17-18 boys and girls. The boys age groups race separately, often on different courses, 2-3 times per week depending on age. The girls are often combined fields with a 2-3 lap handicap for the older group. We are currently not accepting U23 riders, but are more than happy to refer all interested to an alternate program that hosts that age group. Please reach out and we can help.

when is the camp?

Our tentative 2027 camp dates are Thursday, June 24th to Monday, July 26th OR Thursday, July 1st to Monday, August 2nd (those dates being the arrival and departure dates).

The Thursday and Monday dates are the arrival and departure dates. Arrivals and departures can vary slightly from this schedule, but by request and with parental supervision only. Early/Late arrivals and/or departures are subject to additional fees. Pickup/Drop off from BRU is included. Alternate airport transport can be arranged for a fee.

WHO WILL I RACE WITH/AGAINST?

Belgium has race offerings separated by age groups of U17 (racing age 15-16) and U19 (racing age 17-18). Field sizes are usually 50+ in each age category for the boys and 30+ for the girls. Typical racing categories like seen in USA or Australia do not apply. Contact us with specific questions regarding ability level needed to have the best possible experience.

where is the camp?

We will be based in the heart of the Flemish Region in Oudenaarde, Belgium. This historic town is the perfect home base for our racing camp as the city is large enough to have all amenities necessary, but still relatively small. It is very near many of our races and many fabled 'bergs' in the Tour of Flanders.

who usually attends the camp?

We typically host a very international group of athletes. Most campers are serious about racing bikes and use the camp to develop their racing ability. They may use the camp as a launching point for a professional or strong collegiate career. Our camp also provides an experience living abroad, with roommates, in an environment that cultivates personal responsibility and life skills.
